MANCHESTER, NH — A man from Manchester who was accused of child assault last year and was out on bail after being arrested on a prior assault charge was arrested on new charges after a child abuse inquiry at a local hospital.

On July 2, police were requested to Elliot Hospital for a report of suspected child abuse, according to Heather Hamel, a public information officer for the Manchester Police Department. The boy had a head injury and both of their eyes were swollen, she said.

“The child’s injuries were serious but non-life-threatening,” Hamel said. “He was taken to a Boston Hospital for further evaluation.”

Hamel said the boy was in the care of Ryan Sanchez Montanez, 25, of Manchester. After an investigation, a warrant was issued against Montanez on a felony second-degree assault charge and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Montanez was arrested and held on preventative detention. He is due in Manchester District Court on Thursday.

Hamel noted, at the time of his arrest, Montanez was out on bail after being arrested on a prior assault charge. He was also arrested on a second-degree assault charge last year “for causing injury” to a child under 13, she said.
