Bears defeat Hammys 11-9 in thrilling final, dedicating win to Jay Medenilla

The 2024 Spring Over 40 Basking Ridge Men's Softball League wrapped up on Sunday, June 23rd with the second seed Bears holding off the number one seed Hammys 11-9 in the Championship game.

The Bears started their playoff run by knocking off the defending champs, The Wolfpack, and continued with two consecutive wins over the Hammys. The Bears, sponsored by Chico's Bail Bonds, finished the season with an overall record of 11 and 2.

The team showed strong defense throughout the season and continued to flash leather through the playoffs. Outfielders Brian Gismonde and Craig Gianetti made two outstanding plays in top of the 7th to seal the win. Brett Kobren led the offense with a grand slam and 7 RBI. Rick Salvatore held both the Wolfpack and Hammys strong offenses in check and did not walk a batter through the playoff run. The Bears dedicated their season to the memory of their dear friend and former teammate, Jay Medenilla.
