Friedman said 48 years ago when there was only one traffic light in town, he walked in to the fire company one Sunday morning to see what it was all about.

"It's been my entire life, 48 years, with a wonderful group of people. I am so happy I was able to serve everyone," said Friedman.

Committeeperson Janice Fields said she was choked up at the meeting because Friedman meant so much to her.

"Most importantly you mentored most of the men and women in this town and I want to thank you for that," said Fields. "You touched a lot of lives. Thank you for your service and thank you for being the man that you are."
