5 Majestic Waterfalls Near New Jersey To Embrace Nature's Beauty

NEW JERSEY — Beauty is all around us in New Jersey, you just need to know where to look. Waterfalls in particular are among the greatest natural beauties. While some waterfalls require little effort to get to others may require a bit of an adventure to discover.

Here are 5 spots in and around New Jersey to check out on your next hiking trip:

Paterson Falls

Also known as the Great Falls of the Passaic River, these waterfalls extend 77 feet high and are part of the Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park.

There are a few ways to view the Falls. On foot, you can catch a glimpse from Haines Overlook Park on the south and Mary Ellen Kramer Park on the north. Drivers can also see the Falls from McBride Avenue which crosses the Passaic River. A footbridge is also available over the Falls gorge. For more information visit nps.gov.

Bushkill Falls

Also known as the "Niagara of Pennsylvania," Bushkill Falls offers a series of eight waterfalls located in the wooded Pocono Mountains. The falls are accessible through a network of hiking trails and bridges. For more information visit visitbushkillfalls.com.

Buttermilk Falls

Buttermilk Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in New Jersey and found in the Delaware Water Gap. The falls are located off a 1.4 mile trail that connects to the Appalachian Trail. Non-hikers can also find the falls right off a parking lot in Layton. For more information visit nps.gov.

Dingman Falls

Not in New Jersey, but literally just across the border you can find Dingmans Falls, which is the second-highest waterfall in Pennsylvania, with a plunge of 130 feet.

Hikers will begin at the on-site visitors center and take a flat boardwalk trail to Dingmans Falls. Along the way, visitors will also be able to see the Silverthread Falls. For more information visit poconomountains.com.

Hemlock Falls

Located in the South Mountain Reservation in South Orange, the falls are easily accessible off a wide dirt path. The falls are 20 feet high and nestled in the woods. It is about a 2-mile hike into the woods to see the falls, however, there is also a longer 5.6-mile trail loop available as well. For more information visit njhiking.com/hemlock-falls.
