Basking Ridge Community Mourns Loss Of Pizzeria Owner

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Basking Ridge community is mourning the loss of pizzeria owner Giuseppe DeMaio who died at the age of 66 on Sunday at Morristown Medical Center.

DeMaio owned Veneto Restaurant Gourmet Pizza & Deli located in the center of The Hills' Highlands Village Center off Allen Road in Basking Ridge.

"Our PBA members want to share our deepest sympathies and condolences to The DeMaio Family as they mourn the passing of Veneto Pizzeria owner Joe DeMaio. Veneto Pizzeria in the Hills has been a staple of The Hills community for many years. Notably, Joe and his family assisted many families in need during Superstorm Sandy. Rest easy Joe," the Bernards Township Pba posted.

DeMaio was born and raised in Italy before coming to Fort Lee in 1972. He then lived in Teaneck before moving to Parsippany in 1986.

DeMaio is survived by his wife, Theresa F. (nee-Fasanella); his sons: Vincent J. and Joseph and his wife Natalia; his daughter, Gina R. MacDonald and her husband Neil; his mother, Rosa Macri; his brother, Marcantonio and his wife Jackie; his sisters: Rosaria DeMaio and her husband Domenico, Angelina DeMaio and her husband Antonio, and Giuseppina DeMaio and her husband Giuseppe; his brother-in-law, John Fasanella and his wife Mary; his sister-in-law, Josephine Santora and her husband Mark; and his three cherished grandchildren: Emma, Madeline, and Luciana. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at ParTroy Funeral Home in Parsippany.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 179 Baldwin Rd., in Parsippany. Entombment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 300 Memphis, TN 38148.
