Beloved Basking Ridge Father, 60, Lost Long Battle With Cancer

Donald J. Moore was best known for his quick sense of humor, making friends everywhere he went, and always being there for his children.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Beloved Basking Ridge family man Donald J. Moore, 60, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sept. 23 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Don was best known for his quick sense of humor, and for making friends everywhere he went.

He was passionate about participating in activities his children were involved in, serving as Little League coach and Cubmaster for his son. With his daughter, he enjoyed Indian Princesses and screaming himself hoarse at cheerleading competitions.

Don was an avid reader and a lover of trivia, his favorite subjects including World War II and J.R.R. Tolkien. He enjoyed computer games, his pets, vacationing in Maine with his family, cheering on the Yankees and Packers, and watching ridiculous monster movies with his wife.

Don was born Aug. 25, 1959 in Morristown, and lived in Basking Ridge his entire life. The son of the late Donald and Beatrice Moore, and brother of the late Donna Moore, he graduated from Ridge High School in 1977 and attended Norwich University, where he was active on the Regimental Drill Team.

He graduated from Norwich in 1981 and graduated from Seton Hall University in 1985 with a masters in English Literature. Don worked with technology and computers for the duration of his career, at AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and World Wide Technology.

Don will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 32 years, Brenna, his son, Dennis, and his daughter, Alyssa.

A brief memorial service will be held on Oct. 5 at noon at Somerset Hills Lutheran Church, 350 Lake Road, in Basking Ridge. All are welcome.

Afterwards family will receive friends and visitors up until 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Somerset Hills Lutheran Church or to the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (100 Commons Way, Bridgewater NJ 08807).
