Former Basking Ridge Woman Dies After 3-Year Battle With Cancer

Gail A. (Post) Sherer, 58, "will be remembered most for her selflessness, always putting other people's needs before her own:" Obituary.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A former Basking Ridge local, Gail A. (nee Post) Sherer, 58, of Long Valley died following a three-year battle with cancer on Saturday, May 19 in Morristown surrounded by her family.

Sherer was born on March 31, 1960 in Pequannock. She grew up in West Milford and lived in Basking Ridge, Bernardsville and Bridgewater, before moving to Long Valley in 1994.

Sherer most recently worked as an accounting assistant for the Kore Insurance Group of Livingston for many years. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining friends and family, interior decorating, and hosting dinner parties.

She treasured the time she spent with family during summer vacations on Long Beach Island. Sherer will be remembered most for her selflessness, always putting other people’s needs before her own, her obituary states.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 23 years Scott Sherer; devoted daughter Allyce Hackmann and husband Westley; two cherished grandchildren, Austyn and Haley; two loving sisters, Patty Kelly and husband Patrick, and Debi Post and husband Brian Malcolm; and by many other loving family members and friends.

Sherer's Life Celebration will include a visitation on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (corner of route 206) Chester.

A funeral service will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude the visitation. Interment will be held privately by Gail’s family.
