Murphy: Trump Does Not Need To Quarantine For Bedminster Visit

BEDMINSTER, NJ — President Donald Trump will not have to follow Gov. Phil Murphy's 14-day quarantine despite recently traveling from a Arizona, a high-infection state, and now heading to Bedminster this weekend.

Murphy along with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and Ct. Gov. Ned Lamont announced on Wednesday "a joint travel advisory" for people coming in from states with a high infection coronavirus rate. Read More: High-Infection State Travelers To NJ 'Must Quarantine:' Gov.

The advisory went into effect at midnight on Wednesday requiring those travelers to quarantine for 14 days.

"The president of the United States is not a civilian. Anyone who is in close proximity to him, including staff, guests, and press are tested for COVID-19 and confirmed to be negative," Judd Deere, White House spokesman said, according to CNN.

When questioned by CNN about Trump not abiding by the new state travel advisory Murphy said Trump is an essential worker.

"There is a carve out for essential workers and I think by any definition the President of the United States is an essential worker," Murphy said.

Murphy went on to say that the advisory was to get the public to be responsible when traveling and to think about not just themselves but their families and communities.

"We have beaten this virus down to a pulp in New Jersey with an enormous loss of life and we've through hell and don't want to go through hell again. That's the spirit of what underpins what we are asking folks to do," Murphy said on CNN.

Trump is scheduled to return to his golf club in Bedminster this weekend. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a temporary flight restriction for VIP movement for the Bedminster and Morristown area from 4:15 p.m. on Friday through 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. This will be his second visit to Trump National Golf Club off Lamington Road this month.
