Soul Sisters To Celebrate 5 Year Anniversary In Basking Ridge

Since opening in 2017, the dream of three sisters to own a boutique in Basking Ridge continues to flourish and expand.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Opened by three sisters, Soul Sisters, will soon be celebrating their 5th year in business this coming April.

Over the past five years, it hasn't been easy running a business through a pandemic, shutdowns, and more.

"This year has had its share of challenges, pivots, etc. However, we’ve come through stronger than ever," said one of the sisters and owners Julie Pascarella of Basking Ridge.

Pascarella, a marketing and event planner, and her sisters Lisa Plinio, an attorney, and Donna Arnold, a financial planner both from nearby Clinton, opened the lifestyle boutique in 2017 at 25 South Finley Ave.

Leading up to their anniversary, Pascarella said she and her sisters have accomplished a lot.

"We just finished a sizable renovation of our shop in downtown Basking Ridge and have expanded our offerings to include more clothing based on how we observed our customers' shopping habits and their increasing desire to purchase more items locally," said Pascarella.

Specifically, the sisters renovated a back room to offer extra space since they were running out of place for new and added merchandise.

Most recently they attended the Atlanta Gift Show in Atlanta, Georgia where they spent three days visiting new designers, buying new products and connecting with suppliers.

"We take great pride in hand-selecting the lines and products that make it into our shop. We buy based on an item or line's uniqueness, value and quality and we collaborate as a team (all three sisters), said Pascarella.

When choosing products for the boutique, Pascarella says it has everything to do with knowing her customers.

"We've come to know our customers well and when considering products, we evaluate them with our customers' taste and buying habits in mind... whether it's a style component, a fragrance or a feel, we look at it through our customers' point of view," said Pascarella.

Plinio agreed that the connection the sisters have with the Basking Ridge community is wonderful.

"We know our customers and they know us. We know their kids and we share stories. We are more than customer retail, it has become sort of a community," said Plinio.

Soul Sisters also has expanded its online sales and presence to meet the needs of today.
