Park Commission Garden Discovery Tours

Tours begin September 6, 2018

Adults are invited to join the Naturalists of the Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center (EEC) on a series of Garden Discovery Tours to some of the area’s most interesting destinations. All trips will depart from the EEC at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. For informantion and registraion visit www.somersetcountyparks.org or call 908-722-1200, ext. 5002.

On Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. guests will enjoy a short trip to one of the country’s finest gardens, Somerset County Park Commission’s Colonial Park Gardens. Visitors will join a rosarian for a tour of the Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden which won the 2015 World Federation of Rose Societies Garden of Excellence Award. Visitors will enjoy the sensory and fragrance garden and stroll through the perennial garden. Fee is $25 per adult/$20 per senior.

On Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 8:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Naturalists will lead visitors to Boscobel on the Hudson River, dating back to the early 1800’s and containing a magnificent collection of furniture and decorative arts from the Federal period. Guests will tour the mansion and the well manicured grounds, exploring the Herb Garden, Orangery, and circular Rose Garden. Fee is $70 per adult/$60 per senior.

On Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Naturalists will lead adventurers to the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey, a 35-acre magnificently landscaped garden featuring over 250 contemporary sculptures. Visitors will tour, enjoy the fall foliage, shop the museum, and leave with a better appreciation of art. Fee is $60 per adult/$50 per senior.

On Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. guests will visit the New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show at the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. Visitors will be captivated by model trains zipping around famous New York landmarks and marvel at the creativity of buildings made of plant parts such as nuts, bark, seed pods, and leaves. Fee is $60 per adult/$50 per senior.

Registration required for all Discover Tours and is available now only for the September trip at www.somersetcountyparks.org or by calling 908-722-1200, ext. 5002. Registration for the October and December trips will begin on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 9:00 A.M.
