BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Do Ewe Knit, a luxury yarn boutique, has moved from Westfield to open in a larger space in Basking Ridge.

Warren local Karen Posniak opened Do Ewe Knit on Jan. 31 at 413 King George Road, suite 102, in Basking Ridge. An official grand opening is planned for April.

Posniak has been in business for 12 years but her passion for knitting began long before then.

When Posniak was younger her mother and grandma were knitters and sewers but she never really learned.

It wasn't until her family bought her a gift card to a local yarn store in Westfield.

"I learned to knit and absolutely loved it!" said Posniak to Patch. "I couldn't believe you could do all these different things."

Once she started she was hooked and began reading knitting books. She eventually opened her first location in Hoboken before moving to Fanwood, then Westfield, and now Basking Ridge.

Over the years Posniak was able to adapt to whatever was thrown at her to thrive.

In 2013 she started to post on social media and ended up "exploding" with more than 40,000 followers on Instagram. During COVID, Posniak kept her business afloat by expanding on her kits from designers to offer for people to knit at home.

"I am known for my kits, and known for my color," said Posniak, who features brightly colored designs in her new store and her yarns.

"As a little girl my dad was an artist and he would take me to the museum every Sunday," said Posniak.

At the museums, Posniak was exposed to colors and has incorporated that into her knitting.

Knitting for Posniak has also always been a comfort for her, even in her darkest times.

During COVID, Posniak's husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He needed a biopsy but with restrictions in place, she wasn't allowed in his room.

"I was sitting there and just knitting and thinking 'How did I wind up here?' But I had my knitting… it was just like something else in my brain that I could go to. It is a comfort to me that is not food," Posniak.

Now in her new, large location at 1,685 square feet, Posniak is hoping to continue to share her passion for knitting.

Do Ewe Knit has a large stock of prestige yarns and notions for every budget and project. She also has classes to help those at any level. On Thursdays, the store is also open for knitters of any level to stop in and join.
