Ridge High School's 'Newsies' Nominated For Best Musical In NJ

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Ridge High School is among those nominated for Paper Mill Playhouse's 2023 statewide Rising Star Awards.

Each year, schools compete to get their musicals noticed.

This year's nominees were announced on May 2. The winners will be announced live on June 13.

Ridge High School was nominated in multiple categories in connection with the musical "Newsies" including:

• Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical
• Outstanding Leading Performer In A Female-Identified Role - Libby Schmitt as “Katherine Plumber”
• Outstanding Supporting Performer In A Male-Identified Role - Gabriel Subervi as “Jack Kelly”
• Outstanding Performance By A Featured Ensemble Member - Jaidyn Riley as “Mush”
• Outstanding Performance By A Chorus
• Outstanding Performance By An Orchestra
• Outstanding Achievement By A Teacher Or Outside Director - Tim Lynch (Honorable Mention)
• Outstanding Achievement In Choreography and Staging - Rachel Miranda, Jennifer Digiuseppe
• Outstanding Scenic Achievement - Jason M. Stewart (Honorable Mention)
• Outstanding Lighting Achievement - Colin Berry (Honorable Mention)
• Outstanding Costuming Achievement - Bonnie Grube
• The Educational Impact Award
• Rising Star "Theatre For Everyone" Inclusion And Access Award
• Outstanding Educator Award - Tim Lynch

Award Announcements

Tickets to the live Rising Star Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 13 will be made available to final nominees via their school contact on May 4.

The Rising Star Awards will be live-streamed for free on Tuesday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m. Visit PaperMill.org for more information and log-in details.

Scholarship applicants and recipients will be notified by email the week of May 8.
