Ridge Underclassmen Capture Somerset County Fencing Titles

Both girls and boys teams return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Pingry.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Ridge fencers were in action at the Somerset County Fencing Championships Saturday at Bernards High School.

After a full day of competition, two Ridge underclassmen came away with titles in the individual competition.

Freshman fencer Maya Zamlynny won first place in girls foil, while sophomore Reid Kokenge claimed the top spot in boys epee.

Other notable individual finishes included sophomore Charlotte Liu with a 2nd place finish in girls epee, Junior Yasemin Ocak with a 3rd place finish in girls foil, freshman Alex Yang in 3rd place for boys epee, junior Tristin Orthmann placing 3rd in boys sabre, and senior Alex Ligos with a 3rd place finish in boys foil.

In team competition, the Ridge boys epee squad of Reid Kokenge, Alex Yang, Max Wang, Sidharth Burgula, and Paul Eosso captured 1st place.

The Ridge boys foil squad (Alex Ligos, Girish Arul, Christopher Zheng) and boys sabre squad (Tadas Vilemaitis, Tristin Orthmann, Ben Schuchman) both finished in 2nd place. The girls foil squad (Maya Zamlynny, Yasemin Ocak, Aria Chahal) also took 2nd place.

Both girls and boys teams return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Pingry. Ridge hosts Montgomery at 4 pm on Thursday, Dec. 21.
