Showers, Thunderstorms Expected As Cold Front Moves Through NJ

NEW JERSEY — While the day started off with clouds and some breaks of sunshine, it will soon change for New Jersey later Tuesday afternoon and evening.

A cold front will be slowly moving through our area bringing with it the possibility of showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

Northwest winds will pick up to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon hours before increasing to around 10 to 15 mph Tuesday night.

The winds will carry a band of showers creating patchy fog across the state through the evening.

Harsher weather is expected in south Jersey with some thunderstorms, gusty wind and hail possible from 4 to 8 p.m., according to NWS.

The slow-moving cold front is expected to hang around in New Jersey through Saturday before finally departing into Canada. Luckily, Sunday looks favorable with temps in the upper 60s.

North Jersey

Tuesday: Showers likely, mainly after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 68. East wind around 5 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 peercent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely, mainly before midnight. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 44. Light northwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

South Jersey

Tuesday: A chance of showers before 2 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 5 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 44. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
