BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A flood watch has been issued for Basking Ridge as heavy rain is predicted through Tuesday night into Wednesday.

The watch is in effect through 8 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service(NWS).

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas," according to NWS.

Heavy rain and a few thunderstorms will continue into Tuesday evening with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour expected.

Tuesday: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 73. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 10 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 10 and 11 p.m., then a chance of showers after 11 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 64. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Showers likely before 2 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 5 p.m., then a chance of showers after 5 p.m. Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 80. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 81.
