Tornado Confirmed In Somerset County After Monday's Storms

A second tornado was also confirmed in Pennsylvania that may have moved into Warren County, according to early surveys.

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — A tornado was confirmed in Somerset County following Monday's severe thunderstorms, according to preliminary weather reports.

One tornado was confirmed in Bernardsville, and officials are also assessing the exact path of another tornado that damaged communities in Warren County and eastern Pennsylvania, according to the National Weather Service.

"The survey team has confirmed a tornado occurred in this area," according to the NWS.

More details, including the path length and path width, will be made available by NWS on Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service also sent storm survey teams to a third location, investigating a path from Flemington to Readington in Hunterdon County where numerous trees and power lines were down. A storm spotter also reported damage to several houses and barns.

More rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the Somerset County area on Tuesday evening with some of the storms possibly producing small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain.

More than 200 residents in Bedminster, Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, Branchburg, Far Hills, Peapack and Gladstone, and Warren are still without power as of 4:41 p.m., according to JCP&L.

Power restoration isn't expected until 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 28.

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5 p.m. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 p.m. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Patchy fog after midnight. Low around 65. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Light west wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. West wind around 5 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61.

Friday: A chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
