William Annin Softball Comes Up Swinging

The William Annin Middle School Softball team recently played three games to fill in the entire middle portion of their season.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Last week the William Annin Middle School Softball team played three games to fill in the entire middle portion of their season.

Following a bitter loss to Warren on April 30, the team came back with two blowout performances to get them to a 7 win season with only 1 loss and just one more regular season game left on the schedule.

On May 2, by a score of 15 to 7 the Vikings pounced on Branchburg. Callie Witte's clutch hitting included 4 RBIs, with 8 out of the 10 players all recording at least 1 hit. Joining Witte in the multiple hit squad was Kelly Ross, while Mia Hice and Ashlee Kerrick each had multiple RBIs to propel the team past their opponent.

Good eyes were eagle eyes as the team picked up multiple walks - Alexandra Lenz, Kasja Svensson, and Ross received 2 free passes each. The girls kept their motors running on the base paths as Hailey Cuyun, Hice and Ross ran wild as the team amassed 10 stolen bases in the game.

Hailey Adamek's Lefty Lightning pitched another complete game for the win, with 8 more strikeouts to add to her season totals.

The following day against JP Case the Vikings avenged last season's loss with a slugging performance for the ages by a score of 17 to 4. The team picked up 12 more runs than they needed to support their Ace on the mound, backing up Adamek's incredible 9 strikeouts in 4 innings.

Ross added 2 monster home runs and Cuyun picked up an additional bomb for back-to-back homers with her teammate Ross in the 2nd inning.

With a total of 18 hits, Cuyun (4), Ross (4), Adamek (3), Sydney Richel (2), Hice (2), Witte (1), Ella Sparrey (1), Kerrick (1) the Vikings left no stone unturned in finding ways to score.
Lenz, Ava Chianelli, and Cuyun all picked up steam with stolen bases.

Hailey Adamek again once again got the start and the win, with 9 more strikeouts getting her to a staggering 32 K's in the 2024 campaign, and Bella Vergel picked up the save on the mound.

Next up - Bridgewater comes to visit Mountain Park Field 7 and wrap up the regular season. Let's hope the weather holds up this afternoon at 4 p.m. for the girls to get ready for the playoffs with 1 more victory.
