Wind Advisory Issued For Somerset County As Storm Rolls In

A line of showers and isolated thunderstorms will move across the Somerset county area Monday night with power outages possible.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — High winds capable of causing power outages are expected to hit the Somerset County area along with a line of showers and isolated thunderstorms on Monday night.

A wind advisory has been issued for Somerset County through 1 a.m. on Tuesday as southwest winds of 20 to 30 MPH and gusts up to 40 to 50 MPH are expected Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Residents are asked to secure any objects outside and to be on alert as tree limbs may come crashing down causing power outages.

Additionally, the NWS said "a strong cold front accompanied by a line of showers and isolated thunderstorms will move across our region this evening. The showers and isolated thunderstorms may bring brief wind gusts near 60 MPH."

Monday Afternoon: A chance of showers, mainly after 4 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 11 p.m. and midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 35. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 49. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday: A chance of rain and snow between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., then a chance of rain after 11 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 45. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
