Cranford School District Gives Back 3 Unused Snow Days

Cranford students and staff will have a five-day holiday weekend in May due to the amended school calendar.

CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford students and staff will have some extra days off soon, including one five-day weekend.

At Monday night's Board of Education meeting, the board approved an amended 2021-2022 school calendar, which was revised to give back three unused snow days.

Cranford Schools will now be closed on the following dates:

  • Friday, May 27 (all schools closed, except Lincoln School which will have a single session day)
  • Tuesday, May 31
  • Monday, June 6

Lincoln School will have a half-day on Friday, May 27 in order to satisfy the state-mandated 180 school day requirement. According to the district, Lincoln School has to make up for the day had off for an emergency closing due to a broken water pipe in March.

For the other schools, May 27 and May 31 will now be part of a long Memorial Day weekend.

Cranford Schools will not be closed for Juneteenth, which is celebrated in New Jersey on the third Friday in June.

Superintendent Scott Rubin said the holiday will be commemorated in school that day with various activities.
