Man Set Fire To Metuchen Home While Residents Slept, Charged: Police

Four Metuchen residents were displaced after their home and vehicle were set on fire on June 27, police said.

METUCHEN, NJ - A man from Bayonne was arrested and charged with attempted murder and other offenses for setting fire to a Metuchen home while residents slept, Metuchen Police said.

Walid Beshai,36, was taken into custody at his residence on Wednesday by Metuchen Police officers and charged with attempted murder, aggravated arson, burglary, criminal mischief, stalking, harassment and cyber harassment.

The charges follow an investigation into a fire that occurred at a multifamily home in Metuchen on June 27.

While the residents were asleep, their vehicle and home were set on fire during the early morning hours, police said.

Four people were displaced from their home because of the severity of the fire.

Police said they were investigating several similar offences.

These investigations are active and ongoing.
