UPDATE: NE Corridor Rail Service Resumes With Delays After Edison Fire

The Northeast Corridor Line rail service is suspended in both directions between Trenton and Penn Station, NY, NJ Transit said.

UPDATE: NEC rail service has resumed with significant delays in both directions between New York and Trenton, NJ Transit said. Westbound service will bypass Metuchen, Edison and New Brunswick. Customers advised to transfer at Princeton Junction for eastbound service back to these stations.

EDISON, NJ – Brush fire broke out along the train tracks from Metuchen through Edison, resulting in the temporary suspension of the Northeast Corridor rail lines, Mayor Sam Joshi said.

The Edison fire also seems to be affecting Amtrak, according to officials.

"Northeast Corridor Line rail service is suspended in both directions between Trenton and Penn Station New York due to fire department activity near Edison. Customers should seek alternate transportation," according to a notice on NJ Transit's website.

The brush fire extends all the way to North Brunswick, Joshi said.

The Edison Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management, County Fire Marshal and OEM are currently on the scene.

Brush fire was also reported near the train track in Aberdeen, according to the local police department.

It's not clear what started the fire.
