GLASSBORO, NJ - A Glassboro-based home decor and party store will be shuttering after nearly 60 years in business.

Foster’s on New Street announced the closure in May, a move which will coincide with owner Ron Palmisano’s retirement.

“This was not an easy decision, but we know that it’s the right one,” reads a statement posted to the store’s Facebook page announcing the closure. “Thank you to our friends and family, old and new, who have shared so many wonderful memories and years with us. We will carry them with us always!”

An outpouring of community support followed, with locals sharing their surprise - and fond memories - in the comments section.

“So sad to hear this ... Glassboro will not be the same without you,” one user wrote. “If you ever needed that one thing that you couldn’t figure out where to get it, pretty good chance Fosters would have it!”

Others reminisced of a simpler time, noting the warehouse store’s massive selection of items for all occasions.

“Bought so many things at Foster's over the years,” another user said. “Back in the day you didn't have Amazon to order from, you went to Foster's. If they didn't have it, nobody did!”

Palmisano, of Sewell, also told 42Freeway that several new tenants are interested in leasing the building, which he owns, according to the publication.

“The rent from the building, downsizing my life, and my other savings should be enough for me to retire with,” he told the site.

Foster’s, which also specializes in seasonal items, party supplies, crafts and the like, will be offering a 50% discount on all merchandise during liquidation.

A store retirement party is also slated for early November.
