HOLMDEL, NJ — Heavy rainfall from the powerful nor'easter that hit New Jersey this week caused many road closures around Monmouth County. Some New Jersey towns had rainfall amounts as high as 5 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Like in many other school districts, Hazlet schools were closed on Tuesday and at one point in the early morning police said there was "flooding on just about every roadway in town." Similarly, Rutgers University moved classes online.

First responders had to rescue many drivers who got stuck in floodwaters — as many as 15 in Hazlet. Police departments issued warning for people to stay home if possible and to not stay clear of roads that had been blocked with traffic cones.
