Motorcyclist Loses Control, Dies After Crash In Howell

The motorcyclist from Freehold Township wound up in a head-on crash on Fort Plains Road, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said.

HOWELL, NJ — A Freehold Township motorcyclist was killed Wednesday evening in a head-on crash with a minivan in Howell, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday.

The name of the motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man, has not been released.

The man was riding a Honda GL 1100L motorcycle north on Fort Plains Road shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of the motorcycle as he rounded a curve near Jerry's Lane, the prosecutor's office said.

The driver and motorcycle fell and slid across the road in the oncoming lane of traffic, leading to a head-on collision with a Honda Odyssey minivan driven by a 54-year-old man from Howell, the prosecutor's office said.

The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m., the prosecutor's office said.

The minivan driver stayed at the scene, the prosecutor's office said.

The crash is under investigation by members of the prosecutor's office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Howell Township Police Department.

No charges or summonses have been issued in connection with the crash at this time, authorities said.
