Jersey City's Tails On Trails Launching Doggie Day Camp Service

'I'm very excited to get to know the community better, and bring a service that has been lacking in Jersey City,' said founder Judy Nunez.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — For Judy Nunez, there is nothing more peaceful than being outside in nature and spending time with dogs.

Nunez, 42, fell in love with dogs when she was growing up in Teaneck.

"We were always huge animal lovers," Nunez said.

Nunez injured her back when she was 28. She could not sit and lost some autonomy. She became a stage manager and started walking dogs in 2012.

"It was an extraordinary time. It was the greatest time I think I've had. Dog walking was the best job I've ever had," Nunez said. "There's nothing more peaceful to me than being out in nature with a dog. The peace and the connection that you have with a dog, it's a pleasure and honor and fulfilling."

Eventually, she had 20 walkers working for her Tails on Trails business. Now, she wants to expand to go beyond pounding the pavement.

Nunez is expanding Tails on Trails, her longtime dog-walking business, and opening a doggie day camp at 434 West Side Ave.

The facility will have a 850-square-foot, playground-like backyard for dogs of all ages and sizes. The camp will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"It's been a dream of mine to extend the business to the community," Nunez said. "I'm very excited to get to know the community better and bring a service that, from what I hear, has been lacking in that part of town."
