The Heat Is On, Livingston

National Weather Service issues a heat advisory for Monday; See their advice and the local forecast here.

Temperatures reached up to 95 degrees in the Livingston area on Sunday, one of the highest peaks this summer.

But don’t expect relief from the heat yet.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Monday, July 20 until 8 p.m., warning residents in North Jersey that Heat Index values may approach 100.

According to the NWS, a heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make the outside temperature feel like it’s 100 to 104 degrees for two consecutive hours.

“Prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity could result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke,” the NWS warned it its Monday advisory.

This advice is particularly relevant for anyone working outdoors, advised the NWS.

“To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location… Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 911.”
