Livingston Recycling Committee: ‘Do You Really Need That Plastic Bag?’

A group of Livingston residents are asking local merchants and shoppers to think about their environmental impact.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A group of Livingston residents are asking local merchants and shoppers to think about their environmental impact and limit their plastic bag usage. Recently, in theme with Earth Day, the Livingston Recycling and Reclamation Committee unveiled signs at the Route 10 Farmer’s Market in Livingston for customers to consider when making a purchase.

The signs hold a simple message: “Do I really need this bag?”

“The average American family takes home almost 1,500 plastic shopping bags a year,” the committee stated in a news release. “Few are recycled, and a single bag can take from 15 to 1,000 years to decompose.”

A better option, said the committee, is to choose reusable bags.
