Rain Cancels New Brunswick Library's Holi Festival

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — March 21 update: The impending rain has now postponed the festival. A new date has not been given.

The New Brunswick Free Public Library, in partnership with New Brunswick Cultural Center and Rutgers Indian Graduate Student Association, will celebrate the 15th annual Indian Holi Festival on March 23 this year.

All are welcome from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the library, 60 Livingston Ave, New Brunswick.

This will be an outdoor event, with a tent set up behind the library.

Holi is an exuberant festival of colors usually celebrated in March. Originally called Holika, Holi is meant to be a festival that brings people together. Meeting and greeting friends and relatives and exchanging sweets and gifts are integral parts of Holi.

The celebration will begin with music & dance performances by Sowparnika Dance Academy, Chinmayi Nrithyalaya and Sanskruti School of Cultural Dance. There will be a musical dance drama entitled "A Story of Holi," which is a version of a reenactment of the legend of Holika and Prahlad, performed by Navrang Dance Academy. In addition, there will be henna, face painting and other activities. A highlight of the event is Holi color play, which will take place on the library’s front lawn. Powder colors will be provided while supplies last.

There will be a sampling of Indian food donated by Mithaas restaurant in North Brunswick, Bollywood Tadka in East Brunswick, Mejwaani in South Plainfield, Bikanervala in Iselin, The Urban Rasoi catering service, and Delhi Garden in Edison.
