A list of N.J. towns with highest property taxes as rates soared at their fastest pace in years in 2015 by $537 million.

A report shows a list of towns with N.J.’s highest property taxes as rates soared at their fastest pace in years in 2015, by $537 million.

According to data compiled by the Asbury Park Press, the average taxpayer paid $8,354, or $193 more, than they did in 2014.

NJ.com says the 2.4 percent hike is the largest since 2011 and the second consecutive year average tax rates have increased. The hike also defies a 2 percent cap on increases implemented by state legislators in 2010.

The data also could undercut a key boast for Gov. Chris Christie in his presidential bid, the reports said, noting that Christie signed an anti-tax pledge and claimed that taxes are rising at their slowest pace in more than 20 years.
