Over 1K Without Power In Mercer County, Flash Flood Watch Issued

The storm is supposed to pack 60-mph winds, heavy rain, and possible localized flooding.

PRINCETON, NJ — More than 1,000 residents in Mercer County are without power as Tropical Storm Fay hits the area. A flash flood watch has been issued for Mercer County as well on Friday.

Hamilton is the hardest hit so far with more than 960 PSE&G customers without power. Other outages are also being reported in Ewing, Robbinsville and Trenton.

The flash flood watch, issued by the National Weather Service is in effect through this Friday night as heavy rain is expected throughout the day.

Widespread amounts of 1 to 4 inches are likely with locally higher amounts possible, according to the NWS.

With heavy rain expected to occur over a short period of time it is likely rapidly rising flood waters may quickly inundate roadways and areas of poor drainage. Streams and creeks could leave their banks, flooding nearby properties, according to the NWS.

Here is a look at the upcoming weekend weather:

Friday:Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 79. East wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 71. Very windy, with a north wind 30 to 40 mph becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 9 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Sunny, with a high near 89. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
