Pedestrian Hit By Car, Hospitalized In Summit

SUMMIT, NJ — A pedestrian was hit by a Jeep and sent to a hospital with injuries on Wednesday afternoon.

At 12:45 p.m., the Summit Police Department responded to the report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle at the entrance to the Tier Garage, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in Summit.

The pedestrian, a 73-year-old Summit woman, was reportedly crossing the alleyway when she was hit by a 2021 Jeep Cherokee.

The driver, an 85-year-old Springfield man, was traveling east on Springfield Avenue, and turned right into the alleyway leading into the garage.

The driver told police that as he made the turn, he looked ahead to several parking spaces and did not see the victim until just before the vehicle hit her with the left front bumper/hood of his vehicle, according to City officials.

The victim was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad
for treatment.

There was no apparent damage to the vehicle.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.
