Property Tax Bill In Wayne Rises Again, Latest Data Shows

See where Wayne landed on a list of the highest – and lowest – property taxes in New Jersey.

WAYNE, NJ —The cost of owning a home continues to go up in Wayne and in communities around the state, according to recently released state statistics.

Earlier this week, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (NJDCA) published its latest tax tables, which are based on 2022 data.

Statewide, the average residential property valued at $351,702 paid $9,490 in taxes last year – up nearly 2.22 percent from the previous year.

Patch put together a list of the average property tax bills for each town and city, including Wayne. Read More: Highest NJ Property Taxes (See Where Your Town Ranks On New List)

Wayne's average property taxes, which comprise school, municipal, and county taxes, are $12,974 for a house valued at $229,473 — ranking 84th out of 564 municipalities. Last year, taxpayers paid $12,950; in 2021, they paid $12,915.

Wayne property owners paid 23 percent to the county, 54.8 percent to schools, and 22.2 percent to the municipality, NJDCA data shows.

Patch crunched the numbers from NJDCA, and determined Tavistock Borough in Camden County had the highest average tax bill, at $29,996.

Walpack Township, in Sussex County, had the lowest average tax bill at $494.
