Window Screen Cut During Home Burglary Attempt In Westfield

DWI and warrant arrests were also reported in the latest Westfield Police Department blotter.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A window screen was cut during a home burglary attempt last week in Westfield.

On May 31 at 9:30 p.m., a resident of the 1100 block of Lawrence Avenue reported a possible burglary attempt to his house.

After Westfield Police officers arrived, it was confirmed that the rear door glass panel was broken, and a window screen was cut and removed by suspect(s) in the attempt.

No entry was made into the residence and no proceeds were taken.

On May 26 at 1:37 a.m.: Gabriel Castillo, 27, New Brunswick, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated, pursuant to a motor vehicle stop on Central Avenue, near the intersection of Clover Street. Gabriel Castillo was taken to Westfield Police Department where he was processed and released with a future court date.

On May 30 at 2:57 a.m.: Peter Primavera, Jr., 66, Westfield, was arrested on the strength of a no bail Somerset County Superior Court Warrant following a premise check in the area of the 200 block of West North Avenue. Primavera was processed, then turned over to the Somerset County Sheriff's Office after being taken to Somerset County Jail.

On May 30 at 8:53 a.m.: Westfield Police Department was alerted to a wanted vehicle from another jurisdiction that was captured on a license plate reader camera. A Westfield Police Officer positioned their patrol car behind the vehicle in question on Central Ave. and Harrow Rd. and then tried to stop the vehicle based on it being identified in criminal activity in another jurisdiction. The driver of the vehicle then failed to pull over for the officer when the officer activated the police vehicle's emergency lights and siren. The vehicle continued to disobey the officer's direction to pull over and the officer continued to follow the vehicle into another jurisdiction. At this time the police officer returned to Westfield. The identity of the driver was later determined. Numerous motor vehicle summonses were issued to the driver via mail.

On May 30 at 3 p.m.: A resident reported the theft of her purse and cellphone while shopping at a store in the 100 block of Elm Street. An unknown person removed both items from her shopping cart without her knowledge. Credit cards from the purse were then used throughout Union County.

On May 30 at 4:32 p.m.: A resident of the 1400 block of Boynton Avenue reports that they were the victim of identity theft. Specifically, that someone established loans at lending institution(s) in the victim's name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the accounts without their authorization or what information was used to open the account. The victim reports no financial loss at this time.

On May 31 at 10:44 a.m.: An anonymous resident responded to Westfield Police Department to surrender a cellphone which was found on Euclid Avenue. After the found property was surrendered, it was secured at police headquarters for safekeeping until the owner is located.

On May 31 at 6:20 p.m.: A Westfield business owner reported that someone scratched the hood to his vehicle which was parked, unoccupied, in Westfield Municipal Parking Lot # 5 (100 block of Elmer Street). A witness saw someone jump onto the hood of the vehicle then leave the area.
