Bergen Sergeant Charged With Stealing $75K From Police Union: Official

A Northvale police sergeant faces charges of second-degree theft, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a news release.

NORTHVALE, NJ — A Northvale police sergeant faces second-degree theft charges after an investigation into money stolen from a police union, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a news release.

Musella said someone gave his office information that Charles Amorosso, 37, "made cash withdrawals and transferred money out of multiple PBA (Police Benevolent Association) bank accounts without authorization," Musella said.

"An investigation revealed that, in his role as treasurer of the PBA, Amorossa used PBA funds in excess of $75,000 for his own personal benefit," Musella said.

Amorosso was suspended from his duties as a police officer, Musella said. He was charged April 25 and is scheduled for a first court appearance on May 11, Musella said.
