George School Students Learning About Conservation

The school in Washington Township has been focusing on environmental issues this year.

The George Elementary School community is focused on conservation this year.

The “Conservation Station” was designed to educate students on how they can help protect our environment from pollution by preserving our resources through recycling.

Throughout the school year, many activities have related to the theme of conservation. For example, the school adopted a Leatherback turtle named “George Sr.” and each class adopted a sea animal. The school is in the process of planning a visit to the Maritime Museum in an effort to learn how to protect ocean animals. Finally, the highlight of this year’s theme was a visit from photographer, author, and well-known conservationist Michael Patrick O’Neil.

Principal Mary Ferreri is promoting the importance of recycling by posting pictures of students helping our planet. She distributed reusable water bottles for students to use daily. In addition, the George Elementary School website offers various activities and links to school and community events for families to participate. The George community has also hosted used jean, greeting card, and sneaker collections to benefit various non-profit organizations throughout the school year.
