Irene Pouletsos, Beloved Co-Owner Of Conrad's Confectionery, Dead At 95

Pouletsos lived in Westwood for 70 years and was married to her husband james for 63.

WESTWOOD, N.J. — Irene Pouletsos, the beloved co-owner of Conrad's Confectionery, and longtime borough resident, died Sunday.

She was 95.

She "will be remembered by her family and friends as the loving matriarch of her large extended family and a gracious hostess whose home was always open to friends," her obituary by Becker Funeral Home read.

She was the widow of James Pouletsos. They were married for 63 years.

She worked alongside her husband at Conrad's for more than 40 years. Before getting married, she worked in the accounting department of the Lipton Tea Co.

She continued to help out at Conrad's even after retiring, The Record reported. She was in charge of the soda fountain and hired the teenagers who worked at the beloved sweet shop.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe while retired.

She was a founding member of the Elena Society, a longtime member of St. John The Theologian Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Tenafly, and a member of Camp K-20 in Bear Mountain, New York.

Her daughter, Daphne Pouletsos, died on 9/11. Pouletsos was also predeceased by her sister Jean Thanasides.

She is survived by her daughters, Corinne Krachtus of Westwood and Elaine Miller of Fredericksburg, Virginia; five grandchildren, Dayna Krachtus, John James Krachtus, Kassia Miller, Diana Miller, and Alexander Miller; great-granddaughter Hadley; sons-in-law John Krachtus and Martin Miller; sister Mary Sava; brother Peter Kyprios; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road in Westwood.

A funeral service will be held at St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Tenafly on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
