HILLSDALE, NJ — In keeping with the spirit of the national awareness campaign, No-Shave November, Hillsdale police are putting down their razors to raise money for a resident who they say has been a big supporter of their department.

Police now want to do their part to help support him in his time of need. This week, the police department launched a GoFundMe fundraiser for longtime Hillsdale resident, Rob Degroat.

According to the police department, Degroat is a big supporter of emergency services and volunteers on the Hillsdale Fire Department. He also serves as the Pascack Valley Regional DPW mechanic.

On July 20, police said he suffered a stroke. Although he was ultimately released from the hospital with a heart monitor, he suffered from complications shortly after. This, in turn, landed him back in the hospital.

"After many tests, the doctors were able to locate a mass in his lung which requires surgery," the GoFundMe fundraiser reads. "After multiple tests and visits to the doctor, his medical bills are continuing to grow. We are hoping to relieve some of the costs by sending him all donations."
