Snow Day: Westwood, Hillsdale Schools Closed Friday

District officials decided to close schools as snowfall could impact roadway conditions on Friday morning.

WESTWOOD, NJ — Officials for the public schools districts in Westwood and Hillsdale have closed schools on Friday as snowfall could cause problems for the morning commute.

All Westwood Regional Schools are closed, as are the schools in Hillsdale. As for the latter district, officials also canceled all before and after school activities. The ACE Child Care Program are also canceled.

Forecasters predict 3-5 in. of snowfall in North Jersey starting Thursday night and continuing into Friday morning. The snow predicted for Friday morning is likely to cause the most problems, NWS officials said.

"Treacherous roadway conditions are likely, especially early," the NWS said, signaling potential trouble for morning commuters.

Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency on Thursday, which goes into effect at 10 p.m.
Murphy recommended that anyone who can work remotely or start later in the day should do so.

Forecasters expect the brunt of the storm to occur between 1-7 a.m. Friday, with the highest snowfall totals projected for portions of South and Central Jersey.
