BABYLON, NY — The Babylon Animal Shelter is full, despite 4.1 million shelter animals getting adopted yearly and around 920,000 cats and dogs ending up euthanized.

That means an abundance of dogs looking for love are waiting to be matched with their forever families.

This weekend, the shelter is taking action to connect dogs with new homes by hosting a pet adoption expo where anyone who attends can meet a wide array of dogs up for adoption.

Guests looking for a furry friend will find a sort of speed dating event highlighted with raffle baskets, a dog meet and greet and a few hours of fun with some dogs lookin' for love.

A wide array of adoptable dogs will be there, including some pups Patch has recently featured like the meatball-loving mastiff Louie, family-friendly Mocha and Bud, who loves movie nights on the couch (and has his own Facebook page).

For anyone looking to beat the rush and get the pick of the litter, normal adoption hours at the shelter are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

In addition, the shelter needs volunteers, including experienced large dog handlers. The shelter staff is also happy to train interested dog lovers.

There's also an abundance of bunnies, kittens and cats to spend time with too.

Anyone interested in volunteering may contact the shelter by calling the number above or emailing [email protected].
