Shark Sighting At Robert Moses Beach

LONG ISLAND, NY — Summer hasn't officially arrived yet but the shark sightings have already begun.

Local resident Brandon Ramunto posted the photo of the shark fin he spotted in the water on Instagram last week.

Ramunto saw the shark while enjoying a day at the beach at Robert Moses field 2 on May 23 at about 8 a.m.

He said the animal was swimming east. He guessed that the shark was about 10 to 12-feet long.

Last year, Long Island saw the highest ever amount of shark sightings with 17 reported in Nassau County, according to a report from 2020 in the Wall Street Journal.

Over 20 species can commonly found in the oceans in the state in the summer months, the report states.
