BABYLON, NY — Town of Babylon bay constables rescued a family in distress as their boat took in water earlier this month.

According to town officials, bay constables Bill Ross and Charlie Fico were patrolling the water near the Amityville Cut area on August 3 around 12:45 p.m. when they received a call on channel 16 marine radio for a boat taking on water.

Ross and Fico found six people aboard a 26’ Maxum boat that was taking on water. The constables then transferred the people to Town Boat 106 and stood by until Towboat U.S. arrived and installed a pump onboard the Maxum, officials said. Ross and Fico then towed the boat to the marina in Lindenhurst.
