BROOKLYN, NY — The pseudo car salesman accused of luring a young NYPD cop to East New York and shooting him in the head was arraigned Tuesday in Brooklyn Criminal Court, prosecutors announced.

Randy Jones, 38, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Officer Adeed Fayaz, 26, who arrived on Ruby Street the night of Feb. 4 believing he was about to buy a Honda Pilot for $24,000, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office and previous Patch reports.

Instead, Jones pulled out a gun and shot Fayaz when he refused to hand over his money, prosecutors contend.

"Police Officer Adeed Fayaz’ death is a terrible and tragic loss for his family, friends, NYPD colleagues, and the public he selflessly served," District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. "My thoughts are with all who are grieving his loss and my office will vigorously seek justice on his behalf."

Jones was arrested just days after the fatal East New York shooting — and the day Fayaz died — in a Rockland County motel room where he was holed up with a girlfriend and several children, according to prosecutors and police.

Once officers found Jones, they arrested him using Fayaz's own handcuffs, police said.

Fayaz was served five years in Borough Park and was a member of the Pakistani American Law Enforcement Society, according to the group. He left behind his wife and two children.

Jones could face life in prison if convicted of charges that include murder, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and grand larceny, according to the district attorney's office.

The East Harlem man is being held without bail and is next due in court on May 17, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, Jones committed a similar crime on Jan. 13 when he pulled a gun on another potential buyer from Facebook Marketplace, demanding $18,000.
