ISLIP, NY — A heartbroken mother is mourning the death of her son after a rollover car crash killed two teens and hospitalized three others on Southern State Parkway on August 1.

Tragically, Olivier Charles, 18, of Deer Park, and Dymond A. Saunders, 17, of West Babylon, were both pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, Suffolk County police said.

Less than a week later, Olivier's mother, Marie Charles, is facing a parent's worst nightmare as she prepares to bury her son — and the community has joined hands and hearts to help.

Marie's friend, Kelli Hinkson, created a GoFundMe page for Oliver's funeral expenses. On the fundraiser page, Hinkson wrote: "On August 1, 2024, Olivier Charles and his friends were in a car accident. Unfortunately, Olivier was one of the people that did not survive the accident and now his family and friends are grieving the loss of their loved one. Olivier was a loving son, brother, and friend to many, who will be greatly missed.

"This GoFundMe has been created to help his mother, Marie Charles, and his family with funeral expenses. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Although Olivier is physically no longer with us, he definitely will not be forgotten."
