Portion Of Deer Park Street Renamed After Local Pastor

A street-renaming ceremony honored the local pastor who died last year at the age of 76.

DEER PARK, NY — A recent street-renaming ceremony in Deer Park honored a local pastor who died last year.

Officials used the ceremony to recognize Bishop Winfred Pippen, a pastor at First Baptist Church of Deer Park who died in October 2020 at the age of 76.

As a result, a section of Washington Avenue in Deer Park to "Bishop Winfred J. Pippen Memorial Way." The section of Washington Avenue that was renamed, between Sammis Avenue and Tell Avenue, is where the First Baptist Church of Deer Park is located.

Before joining the church, Pippen was an ordained minister of the Greater Second Baptist Church of Freeport. He was also founder and president of the All-Christian Bible College (ACBC) and the First Baptist Bible Institute (FBBI).

He licensed over 80 percent of the 82 preachers that have been licensed by the First Baptist Church of Deer Park and was a lifelong member of a local chapter of the NAACP.

Officials such as Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Councilman DuWayne Gregory, Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly, and TJ Hatter of New York State Attorney General Letitia James’s office attended the event alongside members of the Pippen family, representatives from the Deer Park Fire Department, and dozens of guests at the ceremony.
