CONCORD, NH — A man from New York was arrested earlier this month after police accused him of trying to break into vehicles and lying about his age.

An officer was sent to the parking lot of Hermanos on Hills Avenue for a report of a man attempting to break into cars around 4:30 p.m. on July 11. The caller said the man was jamming keys into one of the vehicles. A second officer, working a traffic detail on South Main Street, and other officers arrived and met with the man who was accused of giving a fake name and age, saying he was a juvenile.

The man said he found the keys on the sidewalk, a report said, and was attempting to return them to the rightful owner.

During questioning, the man refused to give an accurate name and said he could not remember due to a brain injury from a bike crash in 2021, an affidavit said. An officer found the man’s name, Viktor D. Bujnicki, on a debit card in his wallet, the report stated.

When asked if that was his name, he said, “Maybe. It could be,” the affidavit stated.

A check with dispatch found no record of the name, the report said.

Officers then spoke to the caller who accused Bujnicki of acting suspicious, attempting to open the door of the vehicles, while looking left to right during the process. Bujnicki was then told about the witness who saw him acting suspiciously but he stood by his statement that he found the keys on the ground. He was then taken into juvenile protective custody and transported to police headquarters. The owner of the vehicle with the keys was spoken to and the keys were returned to her, the report said. During processing, police learned Bujnicki was actually in his 20s and not a juvenile. His name was confirmed via prior fingerprints. Police also found methamphetamine inside a snuff can in Bujnicki’s backpack, the affidavit stated.

Bujnicki, 23, of Moffitt Boulevard in East Islip, New York, was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, loitering or prowling, and false report.
