Car Crash, Fire Causes Major Delays On Nassau Parkway

A car burst into flames when the driver crashed into trees, causing delays on the Wantagh State Parkway.

LEVITTOWN, NY — A car burst into flames when the driver crashed into trees after veering off the Wantagh State Parkway Friday morning, injuring the driver and causing major traffic delays.

Around 6 a.m. Friday, the Levittown Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to the crash, which happened on the southbound side of the parkway just south of the Hempstead Turnpike. The driver lost control of his car, left the road and crashed into several trees before the car burst into flames, officials said.

Firefighters found the car on fire in the woods. The driver was out of the vehicle and firefighters extinguished the blaze. The driver was transported by Nassau County Police Ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center.

One lane of the parkway was closed. The crash caused major delays in both directions during the morning commute.
