LI Man Arrested After Child Sets Shed, 2 Homes Ablaze With Firework

Police said the Levittown resident instructed the child to ignite it.

LEVITTOWN, NY — A local resident with fireworks is accused of causing a child to burn two homes in Levittown on July 4.

Police said they were called to a fire at 8:50 a.m. at 128 Red Maple Drive North.

After investigation, they arrested Karamjit Singh, 33, and accused him of supplying an 11-year-old with a firework and instructing the child to ignite it.

The firework malfunctioned and caused a detached shed in the yard to ignite. It was engulfed in flames, and then the fire spread to the dwelling and a neighboring home at 122 Red Maple Drive North, police said.

The Wantagh Fire Department extinguished the fires. Nassau County Fire Marshals responded to investigate.

Both homes suffered extensive damage, but there were no injuries reported, police said.

Singh's residence also housed a tenant on the second floor, who was displaced due to the damages, police said.

Singh was arrested and the 11-year-old was released to a family member, police said.

Singh was charged with two counts of Arson 4 th Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2 nd Degree, Unlawfully Selling Fireworks to a Person under 18, Unlawfully Possessing Use or Explode Fireworks, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, police said.
