Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Nassau County

Heavy rain may cause flooding in the region.

The National Weather Service has issued the following hazardous weather outlook for Nassau County and New York City:

LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS LIKELY AHEAD OF A SLOW MOVING COLD FRONT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY NIGHT. BECAUSE OF THE RELATIVELY SLOW MOTION EXPECTED FOR ANY CONVECTION...WIDESPREAD URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING IS LIKELY. THERE IS ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF FLASH FLOODING OF URBAN AREAS AND FAST RESPONDING SMALL STREAMS AND RIVERS.

In other weather news, Tropical Storm Danny continues to strengthen as it slowly moves westward across the Atlantic. The National Weather Service anticipates it will become the season’s first hurricane by Friday. The storm does not pose an immediate threat to the United States, but forecasters say it bears careful monitoring.
