Long Island Food Drive Seeks Online, In-Person Donations

UNIONDALE, NY — PSEG Long Island, Island Harvest and Stop & Shop are teaming up again for a food drive.

The fourth annual Power to Feed Long Island initiative kicks off with an in-person event on Friday, May 24.

Collection bins will set up at seven Stop & Shop supermarkets. Customers can donate nonperishable food and essential care items.

“PSEG Long Island created these events for people to support their neighbors in need in their own communities, and they have been successful thanks to the generosity of Long Islanders," David Lyons, interim president and COO, PSEG Long Island, said.

Anyone who makes an in-person donation will receive a free LED light bulb and a reusable shopping bag.

Participating Stop & Shop stores include Hicksville Road in Massapequa on May 24, Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown on June 21, Old Country Road in Carle Place on July 26 and Long Beach Road in Oceanside on Aug. 16.

“Stop & Shop’s primary charitable effort is to combat hunger in the communities we serve,” said Daniel Wolk, external communications manager, Stop & Shop. "By working together, we can help Long Islanders fight food insecurity."
