LEVITTOWN, NY — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Basil Puglisi who nominated their son Nicholas, of Levittown.

What sport does the star student athlete play?

Rec Ice Hockey & School Lacrosse

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

As a student athlete Nicholas joined independent ice hockey last year and progressed to be a leading scorer for the championship team at NewBridge Arena in April 2022. He now plays in NewBridge in the 13 to 18 year old division, while also taking on his first games as a goalie for the Nassau County Ice Hockey league. Nicholas plays Lacrosse for Wisdom Lane Middle School in the spring and is a part of the Boy Scouts, where he volunteers time to support the cub scouts at events like the weekend events at Schiff Scout Reservation.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

Nicholas is an honor student, while participating in sports both in and out of school, while also being part of several school clubs and still an active and contributing part of the Boy Scouts. As an 8th grader, he has already started to show leadership and participation in and outside of school for both his fellow athletes as well as his community.

Keep up the great work, Nicholas!
